Being back in Mexico I’m reminded of my long-time affection for the Equipale chair. It’s funky yet comfortable and when the leather fades a bit — looks incredible. Now, with the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles giving it so much attention, as well as places like Venice Beach and other cities along the California Coast, it’s had a rebirth and I’ve never seen it look so good! Below, are some gorgeous ideas on how to use this very cozy & versatile chair.

Enjoying a beautiful meal on the patio is something many of us love to do and with the weather finally cooling down, especially here in Southern California, I’m looking forward to spending more of my evenings outside. A photo that has been a big inspiration to me, for this very purpose, is the one below from House Beautiful.

For “Flashback Friday” I decided to dive into the archives and pull out this renovation from 2010. Although, at one time, atriums were the best thing since sliced bread, my clients and I decided to go ahead and remove it in order to enlarge both the kitchen and the dining room.

Since Mondays are always a little difficult to stomach, I thought I would do a quick post on some of my favorite Pinterest pins from the weekend, along with my ideas behind them.

Idea #1: A very clean and beautiful idea for a patio — using different size pavers, gravel to outline the seating area and trees to frame it!

Idea #2: Paint a focal point wall a strong gorgeous color and then hang a collection.

Idea #3: Add a picture shelf above the tub for artwork & candles.

Idea #4: When designing a mother-in-law suite I sometimes have to include a small kitchenette — I like this idea of a small wall to separate main living area and kitchenette.Screen Shot 2016-03-13 at 2.01.07 PM

Idea #5: As many of us are looking for alternatives to grass these days, I love this simple and pretty idea of just rounded Pittosporum, bush germander and lavender. For those that want a bit more color, think about spreading plants out a bit more and adding your color in between.

Idea #6: Another alternative to grass is adding some gravel, boxwood and a very zen like fountain — pretty.

Idea #7: An easy way to add color and texture to a kitchen or bathroom is to add a fun and beautiful backsplash like the one in the photo above.

I hope this gave you a little inspiration as we head into another work week. Happy Monday!

Collections, if done right, can be impressive, inspiring and a huge design feature in your home.

A couple of tips are: 1) choose something you love 2) group your collection together (it makes more of a visual impact) and, 3) if possible stick to a certain color scheme when collecting, as in the photos below.

Christmas Around My Home

Yesterday, I posted some gorgeous photos of Stephen Shubel’s home in the Loire Valley. This morning, I lit some candles and cleared away the usual clutter to take some quick snap shots of my own home. You can see Stephen’s influence — the tangerines, votives and cuttings — all such simple and great ideas for the holidays!

For the past four years I’ve relinquished the tree decorating to my girls. In the first several years all the ornaments were located around the bottom of the tree, but I can see this year (with the help of a step stool) they’re  starting to spread out a bit more.

I took this article out of Veranda many years ago (’05), and it has become my go-to for decorating ideas every holiday season. I just love the way designer Stephen Shubel decorated his home in the Loire Valley.
